A Girls’ Night In is a great idea to add to your social calendar during the cold weather seasons.  I don’t know about you, but when the colder weather settles in, I am less than motivated to venture outdoors to socialize.  My social circle also shares that sentiment.  We all miss going out and getting together, but the cold weather can deter us.  Whether it’s struggling to find an outfit that serves two purposes (warm and cute- layers anyone?), navigating logistics while factoring in the weather (low temperature, snow, sleet, etc.), and finding a mutual time and venue that works for everyone, socializing in the colder season is not my jam.  

A Girls’ Night In is an excellent option for socializing because it is less formal and tends to be easier to organize.  It’s a come-as-you-are social affair; you can make it as warm and cozy as you like. The beauty of a Girls’ Night In is that you can do it physically or virtually.  No fuss, No pressure!

What is a Girls’ Night In?

A Girls’ Night-In is a casual social gathering in an indoor venue. It could be your home, someone else’s home, Airbnb, a hotel, or even virtual; you get the gist. It’s an occasion to catch up, have fun, and bond with your friend group. It is a great option for cool weather gatherings because it removes some friction from the typical outdoor outings, such as picking out an outfit or finding a location. It’s a great budget-friendly alternative to dining at restaurants, going to bars, lounges, or movies, which tend to be louder and less intimate. You get to be present with your friends and be relaxed and carefree in the comfort of an indoor space.

How to motivate your friends?

The colder weather tends to spur the need to retreat indoors. It’s also the time of year when it gets a bit harder to motivate your crew to leave their warm home and venture out into the cold weather, so here are some ways to motivate your crew to join you in a Girls’ Night-in festivities.

Choose the Path of least friction

Make it easy for your crew to say yes to a Girls’ Night-In. Check–in with your friends and see what they are in the mood for, whether it is a gathering in person or virtually. If they are not keen on socializing in person, maybe start with a virtual get-together. A virtual get-together may pave the way to in-person gatherings. You can use many apps, such as Zoom, to coordinate a virtual gathering.

If your crew is up for a Girls’ Night-In at a venue, let them know it’s very casual, and they can come as they are. Suggest they bring easy-prep snacks or store-bought food, such as fruit platters, cheeses, crackers, pre-cooked meats, side dishes, etc. Coordinate ride-sharing and have a designated driver in the rotation if you plan to make this into a cold-weather ritual.

So you may have to be the hype person and give them a reason to get excited about this gathering. 1. Sip and Paint

Has become a popular indoor activity for group gatherings, so we included this activity as one of our unique cold weather ideas for Girls’ Night-In. This event can be relatively cheap and easy to coordinate. Have your friend purchase an inexpensive watercolor kit that can be shipped right to their homes. Suggest that they bring their own beverage of choice for sharing. You can set up a charcuterie board of crackers, veggies, dips, spread, etc., and there you have it, an engaging, no-fuss event where you get to bond with your crew, be creative, and have some fun.

2. Flower arrangement

Another unique cold weather idea for Girls’ Night-In is a flower arrangement gathering. There are many ways you can easily coordinate this event. You can ask each person to purchase a bouquet of flowers to mix, match, and create individual bouquets from each person’s purchase. All you need here are some vases, which some people may already have at home or can purchase cheaply at a discount store or online. You will also need a few flower shears, or good old scissors works as well. Include some ribbons to jazz up the bouquets.

There are many flowers that do not come with a heavy price tag, some for as little as under $10. Here are some ideas for budget friendly flowers. So there, Sweet Friends, set a flower budget, find a dedicated space, dining room table, kitchen island, or your living room floor are all great options. Prepare or ask your friends to contribute some lite fares and become a florist for the night. Enjoy! 

3. Watch Party

Watch parties are another great unique cold weather idea for a Girls’ Night-In and can be done in person or virtually. During the colder months binge watching shows is a go-to activity for many individuals, so why not invite some friends and watch together. Now a -days, with all the streaming service options, it is rare when everyone has watched the same series. So there will be many series to choose from. Ask your Girls for some of their favorite series and see what would be interesting to watch together. Grab some popcorn or your favorite snack and enjoy the cinematic experience in the comfort of your own home or another indoor space of your choice.

4. International Cuisine Night

Experiencing different cultures through food is a great unique cold weather idea for Girls’ Night-In, especially for the foodies out there. You can opt to prep and cook an easy international- inspired meal together. A budget-friendly way to execute this is by having each person contribute ingredients or a dish.  Another option is to combine your funds and order in from your favorite food delivery apps. 

5. Game-Night/Puzzle Night

I love a board game and have a few on ready for when I host. Game Night is a great activity that brings people together, whether they are novices or experts. While board games are a great option and are budget-friendly and accessible because someone in your crew will own one or two games, another unique cold-weather idea for Girls’ Night-in is a puzzle party. Building a Jig-Saw Puzzle can be a laid-back activity that you and your crew can engage in while catching up. 6. Slumber Party

You are not too Old to have a slumber party, Sweet Friends! This is a blast from the past and our last unique cold weather idea for Girls’ Night-In. Some of you may not even consider a slumber party with friends as a get-together you can do as an adult. So I am here to emphasize, Sweet Friends, slumber parties are not just reserved for kids. You, too, can host and participate in an adult slumber party.

You can incorporate one of the themes we mentioned earlier, or another theme that comes to mind is pamper/spa night. Ask your friend to bring over some of their favorite beauty products and spend a night pampering. This is also an excellent way for friends to introduce and share products they love while engaging in some self-care. Whether it’s putting on a facemask, rubbing some cuticle oil on your nails, or something more active like engaging in some group activities such as lite stretching, yoga, and meditation. The goal is to set the intention that the night is all about relaxing and pampering. Here are some more ideas for an adult slumber party.

Girls just wanna have fun, even in the winter. Unlike the warmer weather, where people are out and about, rooftop cafes, restaurants, bars, and lounges; in the colder weather, many people I know go into what I would call a season of respite.
